Apple Crumble

A classic English family tradition. Great as a pudding after Sunday roast, served with Bird’s custard.

Serves: 6


  1. Peel apples, core and cut into chunks.
  2. Place apples in a saucepan with the water; simmer gently for 3-5 minutes just to soften.
  3. Place in a greased 1 litre shallow ovenproof dish.
  4. Preheat oven to fan 170°C, conventional 190°C, gas 5.
  5. To prepare crumble, rub the butter into the flour, until it resembles breadcrumbs, and then stir in the sugar.
  6. Sprinkle over the fruit and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crumble is golden.
  7. Delicious served with Bird’s custard.

  • 1 kg Bramley cooking apples
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 100g McDougalls Plain Flour
  • 50g butter
  • 50g Demerara sugar
