Chocolate Chip Cookies

A favourite with a glass of milk or with a creamy hot chocolate on a winter’s day.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 18-20 minutes

Serves: 12


  1. Preheat oven to fan 160°C, conventional 180°C, gas 4.
  2. Grease 2 baking trays.
  3. In a bowl, cream sugar, butter and syrup together using an electric whisk until light and fluffy.
  4. Stir in flour, milk and chocolate chips.
  5. Place spoonfuls of mixture onto the baking trays, spaced well apart to allow mixture to spread. Flatten slightly.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden.
  7. Leave to cool for a couple of minutes and then place cookies on a cooling rack to cool completely.

Hints and Tips

  • For double chocolate cookies replace 25g flour with 25g of cocoa powder and replace soft light brown sugar with soft dark brown sugar.

  • 175g McDougalls Self Raising Flour
  • 75g soft light brown sugar
  • 100g butter
  • 1 Tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 100g chocolate chips
